Family Dentistry
Preventive and general dental care for children, adults, and seniors — with flexible hours, clear explanations, and a calm family-friendly office.
Professional cleanings and comprehensive exams are the foundation of your oral health. At every visit, we perform a full cleaning (scaling and polishing), a comprehensive periodontal assessment, and a thorough oral exam.
We use digital X-rays — lower radiation than traditional film and instantly viewable on screen, so we can show you exactly what we see. Our intraoral cameras let us photograph the inside of your mouth in high detail, giving you a clear picture of your oral health and any areas of concern.
Most patients are seen every six months, but we'll recommend a schedule based on your individual needs.
Dental sealants are thin protective coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth (molars and premolars) to prevent cavities. The grooves of back teeth are deep and narrow — impossible to clean fully with a toothbrush — making them prime real estate for decay-causing bacteria.
Sealants fill in these grooves, creating a smooth, easy-to-clean surface. The application is quick, painless, and highly effective — studies show sealants can reduce the risk of decay in treated teeth by nearly 80%. We recommend them for children and teens, and for adults at elevated risk of decay.
Dental emergencies happen when they happen — not at a convenient time. We prioritize dental emergencies and will do everything we can to see you same-day. Call us at (781) 552-3365.
Common emergencies we treat:
- Severe toothache or abscess
- Knocked-out or loosened tooth
- Broken, chipped, or cracked tooth
- Lost crown, filling, or restoration
- Soft tissue injury (gums, cheek, tongue)
- Swelling or infection
If you experience a knocked-out adult tooth, keep it moist (in milk or between your cheek and gum) and call us immediately — time is critical.
When a tooth has a cavity, we restore it with tooth-colored composite resin fillings that match your natural tooth color and blend in completely. Unlike old silver amalgam fillings, composite fillings require less removal of healthy tooth structure and bond directly to the tooth for a stronger result.
The procedure is straightforward: we remove the decay, shape the cavity, apply the composite in layers, shape it to fit your bite, and harden it with a curing light. Most fillings are completed in a single visit.
We also offer replacement of old amalgam fillings with tooth-colored composite if you prefer a more natural appearance.
Professional fluoride treatments strengthen tooth enamel and help prevent cavities. Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that remineralizes weakened enamel, making teeth more resistant to acid attacks from bacteria and food.
Applied as a varnish, gel, or foam after your cleaning, fluoride treatments take just a few minutes and provide lasting protection — especially for children, teens, and adults at elevated risk of decay. We'll recommend a treatment frequency based on your individual cavity risk.
Oral cancer is one of the most preventable — and most survivable — cancers when caught early. We perform a thorough oral cancer screening at every comprehensive exam, looking for early signs of abnormal tissue in the mouth, throat, lips, tongue, and floor of the mouth.
Our screening uses advanced lighting technology to identify suspicious tissue that might not be visible to the naked eye. The exam is painless and takes just a few minutes. If we find anything of concern, we'll discuss next steps and, if needed, refer you to a specialist promptly.
Early detection saves lives — and it's just part of what we check at every visit.
We welcome patients of all ages at Protego Dental — from your baby's first tooth to great-grandparent's dentures. Family dentistry means building a relationship with the whole family, not just adults.
For our youngest patients, we create a calm, non-intimidating environment with a gentle approach, lots of explanation, and as much patience as needed. Our kids' waiting area and streaming TVs in every room help ease first-visit nerves.
For adult patients, we build individualized care plans that evolve with your life — from preventive care in your twenties to restorative options in later years. We look at the whole picture, not just the tooth in front of us.
Sometimes a tooth cannot be saved — due to severe decay, fracture, advanced gum disease, or crowding. When extraction is the right choice, we perform it with your comfort as the highest priority.
We'll fully numb the area, walk you through what to expect, and proceed only when you're comfortable. For anxious patients, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is available. After the extraction, we'll provide detailed aftercare instructions and discuss replacement options — including implant restorations — so you understand your path forward.
Wisdom tooth extractions are handled on a case-by-case basis. If surgical extraction is needed, we'll refer you to a trusted oral surgeon.
